Stockholm World Water Week 2020: Three events with BGR participation
Due to the corona pandemic, this year's World Water Week was held as a digital conference under the title "World Water Week At Home". The main theme of the conference, which ran between 24 and 28 August, was water and climate change. The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) participated in three events at the world's most influential, innovative and dynamic forum focused on transforming global water challenges.
In a webinar organised jointly with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the latest research findings on global risk exposure in the particularly water-intensive mining sector were presented. The BGR showed how companies and investors can assess the water risks of individual mining projects. In another online event organised by BGR, international experts used practical examples from various parts of the world to illustrate how groundwater can be used even more efficiently as a buffer for climate-related fluctuations in water supply if properly managed. BGR also supported an event on the new AMCOW Pan-African Groundwater Program (APAGroP). The aim of the programme is to enhance groundwater management in Africa at local to national and continental scale.
